FAQ

What is an elective ultrasound?

We offer elective 2D 3D and 4D prenatal ultrasounds. The purpose of the ultrasound is to provide expectant families with an opportunity to bond with their unborn baby in a calm, family friendly environment.

Is it Safe?

3D and 4D ultrasounds use the same frequency as regular 2D ultrasound. Extensive studies over the past 30 years have NOT been shown to cause any harm to either mother or baby. The FDA has standards in place for the use of ultrasound. At Little Star 3D Ultrasound we strictly adhere to those standards.

What is SneakPeek® Clinical?

SneakPeek Clinical is an early gender DNA detection test offered to women starting at 9 weeks into pregnancy. The genetic test is designed to work in conjunction with an ultrasound scan for expecting mothers. An on-site phlebotomist draws a blood sample in the comfort of the ultrasound studio, and then returns the sample to SneakPeek Labs for processing. The laboratories offer the fastest turnaround times in the industry, with a choice of receiving your result the same day the sample reaches the SneakPeek Lab.

How does SneakPeek® Work?

SneakPeek utilizes the natural process of shared fetal DNA circulating inside the mother's bloodstream. Our PCR technology has the ability to detect the presence or absence of male Y chromosome in the blood sample provided starting at 9 weeks into pregnancy. If it is detected then the baby's gender is male and if it is not detected then the baby's gender is female.

Will this ultrasound take the place of an ultrasound ordered by my doctor?

Absolutely Not! All of our ultrasounds are elective and should never be done in place of a diagnostic ultrasound ordered by your doctor. We require that anyone seeking an elective ultrasound with Little Star 3D Ultrasound already be in prenatal care and under the supervision of a physician.

Will the ultrasound be covered by my insurance?

No, the ultrasounds we perform are all elective and therefore will not be covered by your insurance.

What if I don't want to know gender?

No problem! The area of the baby's gender can easily be avoided throughout the ultrasound.

What is the difference between 3D and 4D ultrasound?

3D is a still image; 4D is the 3D image in motion.

Do I need to drink water?

There are no water drinking requirements for any of our packages. However, to increase your chances of getting high quality images it's important for you to stay hydrated in the 3 days leading up to your appointment.

Am I guaranteed to get beautiful pictures?

The quality of the images you get are dependent on many factors; fetal and placental position, amount of amniotic fluid, etc. Our goal is to provide you with the best images possible. With many years of ultrasound experience we have lots of tips and tricks to get the baby to move, but if a baby continues to be uncooperative throughout the entire length of your appt we will schedule you to come back for another scan.

I'm having twins, will my scan cost more?

No, it can take more time and effort to scan twins so we ask that you tell us if you're having multiples when you schedule your appointment. Since twins are sharing space we can't guarantee we will get the same quality image for each baby. Therefore, we would never charge you more. It's just double the fun for the price of one!

Who can I bring to my ultrasound?

Whoever you want! Our ultrasound room is large and can accommodate your friends and family members. Please let us know approximately how many people you expect when you schedule your appointment.
